Came across this article on yahoo today:

While he makes some interesting points, I feel he misses the main point. We love animals because of the fact they never judge us. No matter how vulnerable we are in front of them they don't think any less of us. And for this unconditional love they give us we are willing to do more for them. If we started treating people like we treat are pets, and making allowances for them because of their faults then those people would walk all over us, humans are different from animals...it's the nature of the beast so to speak.
While I am all for helping others and being myself, humans just don't always make that possible the way animals do. Not to mention a key point, humans (at least the majority of them as adults) are capable of caring for themselves, our pets don't have options and are forced to live with the choices we make for them.
Anyway...it was a good article, got me thinking. Now it's off to apply that thinking to come good Chemistry homework.

TGIF
Seriously...for a four day week this week has lasted forever! First off I started back at school this week. I already have 80 pages of reading for my international political economy class (something I know NOTHING about!) and hard chemistry problems due next week in that class. As if school and work isn't enough, I've had to take care of my parent's two dogs this week. They are great dog and I love them to death, but 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2-3 humans in one two bedroom apartment is a lot! And with school at night Michael, my boyfriend, has had to come over in the evenings to take care of him despite being sick all week. So he hasn't been to happy with me.
This weekend also marks one of my few weekends left to sleep in :-( I start my Chem labs next Saturday and eventually I have to go back to my weekend vet assistant job on Sunday. I need the hours, experience and vet references if I am going to apply to vet school.
So, I plan to take this weekend easy. Rest, relax, clean around the house and prepare for full on over load for the next few months. I need a vacation just thinking about it.

To much time, to little to do..HA!

So, since I have an overabundance of time on my hands (as if) I thought it would be fun to create a blog. I have no idea what to blog about, but figure I have enough randoms ideas and thoughts in my head each day that I should launch them into cyber space like so many others before me.
Since this is my first post I guess I should do a bit of an introduction. My name is Rachel, I live in Chicago and love it here most of the time. I hate the winters, but since it is sunny and almost 50 degrees today in January, I can't really complain much about them right now. I'm currently a student studying to get my degree with a major in psychology (read that to mean I way over analyze everyone and everything). I'm also taking a lot of science courses as I am planning to apply to vet school when I am done. I LOVE animals. I have two cats, Winnie and Matilda, and a dog, my baby, Ivy . She is my inspiration for vet school and also the title for my blog. Ivy eats a raw diet made up of meats and bones and veggies. It was in learning about how to feed her a proper diet and care for her more naturally and holistically that I really started to develop an interest in veterinary medicine. For right now I find much of my life is spent researching, learning and explaining to others about raw diets, holistic medicine for animals and what I eventually want to do...so instead of a dog eat dog world, I live in a dog eat raw world. I'm not the most creative at titles, so if it is lame I am open to suggestions to change it, if I can that is.
Besides going to school and caring for my animals I also work full time for a unique little company. I'm basically the office manager and all around go to person for whatever. It pays my bills and keeps a roof over my head and my babies have food and toys, that's what matters.
Anyway...I think that is enough of an intro for now. Thanks for reading.
